Interview: That Awkward Moment’s Miles Teller

that-awkward-moment-poster-miles-teller-405x600Perhaps you missed Rabbit Hole, but between Footloose21 & OverThe Spectacular Now, all the buzz coming out of Sundance for Whiplash and the fact that he’s clearly earned himself a place in the incessant blockbuster rumor mill, it’s obvious that Miles Teller is one to watch. In his latest release, That Awkward Moment, Teller steps in as Daniel, a 20-something living in New York City who’s busy at work by day and picking up ladies at night. When Mikey (Michael B. Jordan) gets hit with a divorce, Daniel and Jason (Zac Efron) decide it’s time to embrace the single life together. However, it’s easier said than done because when Daniel starts to fall for his wing-woman, Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis), he’s genuinely thrilled to start the relationship, but just can’t build up the nerve to tell his friends.

With That Awkward Moment heading towards its January 31st wide release, Collider got the chance to sit down with Teller and discuss how the film has made him an honorary love guru. Check out Teller’s dating advice as well as what he told us about his preparation process, the challenge of establishing a comedic rhythm, his audition for Star Wars: Episode VII, potentially beefing up for Fantastic Four, his thoughts on the final book of the Divergent trilogy and much more in the interview below.

NYCC 2013: J.W. Rinzler Brings The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi to NYCC

makingofreturnofthejedi1J.W. Rinzler’s “The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” is currently available for purchase in hardcover, but in honor of the upcoming release of the multimedia eBook edition, Rinzler took to the stage at New York Comic Con to show off some never-before-scene photos and videos from this enhanced version of the book and run through some Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi facts and anecdotes.

Like the Richard Marquand-directed “Return of the Jedi,” “The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” wraps up a trilogy for Rinzler. “The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film” dropped in April of 2007 and then came “The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” in October of 2010. By tapping into the Lucasfilm Archives, Rinzler put together another behind-the-scenes piece loaded with production stories, previously unpublished photos, present-day commentary and more to provide insight into how George Lucas and his team brought “Return of the Jedi” to life.

Movie Characters We Wish Were Real

We’ve all gone to the movies at some point and walked away wishing a particular character was real. What if someone like Batman were there to fight crime, or what if all our toys magically came to life and went on adventures while we slept at night?

Ruby Sparks (in limited release this weekend) stars Paul Dano as Calvin, a struggling writer whose big breakthrough arrives when one of his characters (played by Zoe Kazan) comes to life. In an effort to have some fun with that plot, we took a look at some big-screen characters capable of making the real world a better place, or at the very least a little bit cooler.

Tony Stark (Iron Man)

Who wouldn’t want to live in a world where superheroes really do exist? Spider-Man and Superman would be great, but do they come with a multibillion-dollar corporation like Stark Industries? In addition to getting a guy capable of zipping around the world at a moment’s notice, annihilating enemies with the palms of his hands and exhibiting incredible strength, should Iron Man become the real deal, in comes a technology company with seemingly endless resources that is responsible for developing weapon and defense products of superhuman quality.

The Most Appropriately Hilarious and Ridiculously Bad Haircuts on Film

It’s September and you know what that means: Halloween is right around the corner! No, we don’t want to rush the year away, but once Labor Day comes and goes, stores start to load up on Halloween gear and those seasonal costume stores begin to pop up everywhere.

This past weekend we had a potential costume craze bomb on the big screen in Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star. In the film, Nick Swardson leads as Bucky, a small-town guy who wants to follow his parents into the porn biz.

Bucky’s a bit awkward from head to toe, but the most striking element of this guy’s look is certainly that hair. Should you opt to pick up a Bucky-like wig and toss that on for Halloween, we doubt many people will know who you are, but if you’re in the market for a hairpiece-based getup – appropriately hilarious or ridiculously bad – some of these might serve as inspiration.

SDCC 2011: MIMOBOT Brings New Designs, Bigger Drives And Famous Faces To Comic Con

Who doesn’t love a MIMOBOT? They’re these little USB drives in the shape of all sorts of characters like Batman, Hello Kitty, Darth Vader and more. Sure, they’re small and simple, but it really does make backing up your work that much more enjoyable. In fact, one of the few things I bought while at San Diego Comic Con was their Stormtrooper model.

MIMOBOT’s Comic Con booth came packed with many of their beloved designs like their Star Wars line-up, Green Lantern drives, and Batman designs, but the team was also there to introduce a few SDCC 2011 exclusives. Not only were the Harley Quinn and Emily the Strange MIMOBOTs available for purchase, but both Tara Strong who voices Quinn in the Batman: Arkham City video game and Rob Reger, the creator of the character Emily the Strange, made appearances to support their designs. Billy Dee Williams also showed up to support his Lando Clarissian model.

In addition, Comic Con also saw the release of the Star Wars series 7 collection, which includes Boba Fett (ROTJ Edition), Leia as Boushh, Lando Clarissian, Bossk and Han Solo with a carbonite carrying case. The 2 GB HK Animals collection also premiered, rocking 11 different designs. On top of that, the company also debuted its new 32 and 64 GB capacity drives.

Cinematical Seven: Awesome Aliens to Hang Out With

Good friends are hard to come by, so when you spot one in a movie, you can’t help but to dream — even when that potential pal is not of this world. On March 18th, we’re going to meet Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen), an alien who crash lands on Earth, is held prisoner by the government and decides now is the time to escape. That’s when Paul meets Graeme and Clive (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), two nerdy guys on their way to check out Area 51. The little gray guy has his own Predator mode, enjoys Reese’s Pieces, has an endless supply of wisecracks and even manages to wiggle his way into his new friends’ hearts so much so that they’re willing to do whatever it takes to get Paul home.

They’re fun, loyal and out-of-this-world. Who wouldn’t want to have an alien as friend? Well, odds are, it isn’t happening, but there’s certainly no harm in dreaming. Should my extra terrestrial pal ever beam him or herself down to Earth, I’m hoping he or she would be something like one of these unearthly movie characters.
