What the Movies Tell Us You’ll Need for the End of the World

No, the end of the world isn’t a good thing, but thanks to the film industry, it’s kind of fun to wonder what you would do should that rogue meteor threaten the planet, a zombie apocalypse hit or aliens attack. Come Friday, we’ll get a rather fresh take on what two people opt to do with their final days when they’re informed humanity’s end is imminent. While Seeking a Friend for the End of the World places prime importance on spending the time left with someone you love, there are also a slew of other films offering up excellent options for preparing for, or perhaps even surviving the Earth’s demise.
Father – Armageddon

As obsessive moviegoers, my family always gets a good laugh at putting ourselves in hypothetical movie-made scenarios and, should the world come to an end, we joke that despite good intentions, my father would likely point us in the wrong direction, perhaps right towards the impact zone of an Earth-bound comet. On the other hand, if the key to survival was building a shelter equipped with a generator and stocked with food, I can guarantee you the Nemiroff’s would have the nicest set-up on the block. So while all fathers can’t be Harry Stampers, drilling holes into asteroids and saving the entire planet, a father’s love can lead to air conditioning and electricity when the world is crumbling, in my case at least.
